First of all, thank you for contributing to the remix pack. You don’t normally release music as an artist or producer these days. Tell us a little about how we managed to convince you to create the Dub Mix for us.
During the early test releases to DJs of the Original Mix of Seek Bromance we got some feedback that DJs would like to see a Dub Mix in the remix package. Whilst I’ve engineered Dub Mixes for other artists and producers before, I’ve never had the opportunity to create one myself. I thought this would be an exciting challenge to prove myself in a slightly different genre.
Tell us a bit about yourself, for those that are new to #TeamFidget.
I started as a DJ in the early 2000’s playing mostly Hard House, going on to play worldwide to huge main room audiences.
After starting a weekly after-club event I went on to produce a number Hard House tracks and launch several record labels to release my music and music produced by other talented artists.
Eventually, I merged the DJing and music production by playing my music in a live set; effectively taking my studio out on stage and remaking the tracks, live.
However, I found my true passion when I moved from the decks and the stage to the studio and now find that my production and engineering skills are in big demand at Fidget Studios.
What projects are you working on at the moment?
Fidget Music! Over the years, I’ve been in the very fortunate position of being able to work every day doing something I love, working behind the scenes with talented music artists from all over the world. I wanted to use my experience and contacts to promote new, talented artists from Fidget Studios and elsewhere. So, almost exactly a year ago we launched Fidget Music.
Together with the ongoing studio work, my time is pretty much full. Unfortunately, because most of these projects belong to other artists, I can’t really discuss them. However, I can tell you to keep your eyes open for a Fidget Radio Show or Podcast in the not too distant future.
If you could have a beer with anyone past or present who would it be and why?
I would love to have a beer with Matthew Corbett. I always used to watch the Sooty Show as a kid.
Favorite track past of present
Cortina - Music Is Moving. For me it’s the track that takes me back to those early clubbing and raving days.
What's the most rock n roll thing to have happened to you to date?
I remember in 2008 at Energy in Aberdeen, a girl in the audience asked me to sign her boob! I had to get permission from Charlie first!
If you could have a superpower, what would be?
I’d love to have hyper-speed, so I could get 3 days worth of work done in one day. It’s the only way I could keep up at the moment. Also…. The ability to push “send” on an email without thinking about it.
What do you do to get away from music?
At the moment I have a young family. Spending time with them brings everything else into context.
What moment do you remember clearest from the last 10 years?
My memory is awful! It’s gone past at such as speed, I’m sure I’ll not get chance to reflect on it properly until I’m well into my later years.
Anything else you want to say? Any shouts?
I’ve got to say a huge thank you to my wife, Charlie. Without her help and support, I wouldn’t have achieved half of what I have with Fidget Studios, Fidget Music and all the other things I do. Aardvark Paul has had a hand in it along the way too, so he should get a shout out!
